No one should be forced to choose between keeping their job and caring for family.

In a state where more working people than ever before are caring for children and aging parents, and where families are on the front line of the opioid crisis, Paid Family and Medical Leave would provide critical coverage for West Virginians to keep their jobs and be present for the moments that matter most.

National coverage for critical paid leave policy will increase worker retention and help small businesses attract a more competitive and dedicated workforce. Passing paid leave will take the burden of coverage off of employers, strengthening small- and medium-size businesses and local communities.

Working West Virginians are caring for aging parents and caring for children. Working West Virginians are on the front line of an opioid crisis and a global pandemic. That’s why it is critical to safeguard West Virginia workers so they are able to keep their jobs and care for the ones who depend on them in times of need.

West Virginia’s population is aging, and the cost of care goes up every year. Older adults in West Virginia rely on their families for support. A paid family leave policy would mean that older adults have increased access to care and more support from their families.

For the sake of West Virginia’s workers, the people who depend on them, and the businesses that employ them, Senators Manchin and Capito must support Paid Family and Medical Leave Coverage today.

Paid Leave provides critical coverage for West Virginians to keep their jobs and be present for the moments that matter most.

Paid Leave increases retention and productivity and reduces turnover and hiring costs making it a win for businesses and a win for employees.

Paid Leave safeguards West Virginia workers so they can keep their jobs and care for those who depend on them in times of need.

Paid Leave allows working West Virginians to care for aging parents and keep their job.

“My husband and I belong to different political parties. We both agree that there are times when families need support. We shouldn’t have to choose between being providers and caregivers in times of crisis.”

LaCrisha believes that asking for help does not imply that West Virginians are weak, or that they are trying to get a handout. She believes people ask for help because they wish to remain strong, and that sometimes everyone can use a helping hand—especially when it comes to caring for children. #PaidLeave would be the helping hand to WV families.

Thank you 84 Agency and The Vandalia Co. for sharing how #PaidLeave works for small businesses in WV!

That is such a great point that a federal paid leave program would help with retaining current employees as well as bringing new employees on board who have had the chance to work in a role to cover for another employee who is on #PaidLeave caring for their family.

Great points, Ric, Carling and Stephanie! Thank you for this awesome conversation about how paid leave would help West Virginia families and small businesses.
